1. Dried betel nut (customs do not allow imports!)

Current situation: Since the second half of 2022 (the specific time is unknown), the customs has removed it from the entry directory and imports are currently not allowed.

Risk warning: Some merchants in the market still try to import dry betel nut through illegal channels. This practice not only faces the risk of returning shipments, but may also bear legal liability.

2. Betel nut (Chinese medicinal materials, allowed to be imported)

Definition: Betel nut is a dry and mature seed of betel nut, a plant in the palm family, and belongs to the category of traditional Chinese medicinal materials. The customs supervision category is "betel nut heart".

Import conditions:

Please provide certificates of origin, phytosanitary inspection certificate, box list, invoice, bill of lading and other documents

Importing enterprises must have drug management or production qualifications

When applying, you need to apply for the "Imported Medicinal Materials Clearance Form"

Tariff Policy:

Ordinary tax rate: 6% tariff + 13% VAT

ASEAN Origin: 0 tariff + 9% VAT

3. Big belly skin (Chinese medicinal materials, allowed to be imported)

Definition: Big belly skin is the dry peel of betel nut, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine to promote qi and promote diuresis.

Import conditions:

Similar to betel nut, complete documents are required

Imported enterprises must have qualifications to operate medicinal materials

Comply with the trait requirements stipulated in the "Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020"

Common misunderstandings: Do not misreport dried betel nut as a big belly skin, otherwise you will face refund or punishment.

4. Betel nut fresh fruit (imported only in Taiwan)

Definition: Betel nut fresh fruit belongs to fruit products in customs classification.

Import conditions:

Only imports from Taiwan

Taiwan suppliers need to register with mainland customs

Please provide certificates of origin, phytospheric inspection certificate and other documents

Tariff policy: 10% tariff + 9% VAT
